BROADSIDES AND PRINTED MATERIAL

Summary:This series is housed in two large, flat boxes, 24 x 18 x 3.5 inches. Dates range from 1975 to 1991, with the bulk of the material dated in the 1980s. It includes broadsides from both the Stone House Press and other presses, as well as pattern papers by John DePol and pages, proofs and layouts for several books.



The Stone House Press published a number of broadsides highlighting the poetry of Andrew Digby, Dorothy Hobson Fitzgerald, Dorothy Le Baker Hatch, Ben Howard, Norbert Krapf, Gerard Previn Meyer, and Andrew Gelfand Wright. It also published a portfolio of individual broadsides in Portfolio One/1983: ten illustrated poetry broadsides, which included illustrated poems by Susan Astor, Robert Bly, Constance Carrier, Vince Clemente, Richard Eberhart, William Heyen, Norbert Krapf, Joyce Carol Oates, William Stafford, and May Swenson. Illustrators for the poems in this series include Marvin Bileck, John DePol, John Digby, Sarah Edgar, Barnard Taylor and Alford Van Loen. Broadsides, both individual and from Portfolio One/1983 that were illustrated by John DePol have been cataloged and are housed separately from this collection.



Broadsides from other presses include poems by Eliot Weinberger and William Heyen.



The collection also includes proofs and layouts for Stone House Press books: Painter’s Credo by Jon Cornin, Stone House Press Checklist and a poetry anthology, Under Open Sky. Also included are printed sheets from Heartwood by Norbert Kraft and From Dark to Light: wood engravings for the Stone House Press by John DePol.



Three folders contain pattern papers and mock-ups of layouts designed by John DePol, including those for Checklist Stone House Press Books and Ephemera, Christopher Columbus, From Dark to Light, With Me Far Away and others.



Arrangement is alphabetical, with broadsides grouped together in three folders: Broadsides – Other Presses, Broadsides Stone House Press, and Broadsides – Stone House Press, Portfolio One. Proof sheets and layouts are found under the title of the book.
