IMAGINARY CITIES AND TOWN SCENES

Scope and Contents

Summary: In this series are 33 collagraphs and one woodcut of imaginary cities and houses, as well as scenes of towns. The imaginary cityscapes juxtapose whimsical and surprising elements of architecture, land masses and city residents, while many of the stylized towns are very similar in style to prints in the FOREIGN VISTAS series but lack any location-specific identity. Other scenes are more strictly representative of a specific, but unidentified town or city. These are generally large pieces, with some housed in ten folders in a large flat box, two framed and on display, one in Alexander Library and one in the Library Annex. The remainder, all oversized, are housed in three folders in a Map Case Drawer. Several works are in each folder, separated and protected by interleaving paper. Arrangement is by title of work. Each work is further designated with a Rutgers identifying Ross number that indicates box, folder, and unique item number. Reference is made to related works in many cases, as well as to collage plates or woodblocks in the library collection. Measurements are of the paper size, unless otherwise noted, and are height x width in centimeters.
