EARLY WORKS
Scope and Contents
Summary: In this series are 14 woodcuts representing the style and subject matter that the artist explored earlier in his career. Included are scenes of American towns and cities, landscapes and people, as well as a number of related prints in the artist’s series of knights that are also represented in his drawings. These are generally large pieces, housed in nine folders in a large flat box, along with works from the other smaller series, SOUTHWESTERN and UNCATEGORIZED. Several works are in each folder, separated and protected by interleaving paper. Arrangement is by title of work. Each work is further designated with a Rutgers identifying Ross number that indicates box, folder, and unique item number. Reference is made to related works in many cases. Measurements are of the paper size, unless otherwise noted, and are height x width in centimeters.
