WILLIAM M. CHENEY

Scope and Contents

William M. Cheney's long printing career in Los Angeles, California employed various imprints, primarily The Press in the Gatehouse. In 1987, the Miniature Book Society presented Cheney with an award that praised him as: "A 20th century pioneer in designing and printing fine miniature books and California's most prolific printer of miniatures." Glen Dawson knows Cheney well, so we turn to him to tell us about this fine printer. "William Cheney is the last of the Southern California pioneer printing greats, outliving Saul Marks, Grant Dahlstrom, Richard Hoffman, Ward Ritchie and Wallace Nethery." (Bradbury 47)
