SCHORI PRESS/PRESS OF WARD SCHORI (See also Kaycee Press and Black Cat Press)
Scope and Contents
The Press of Ward Schori or Schori Press is the imprint of Ward Schori of Evanston, Illinois. He published, printed, edited and designed his miniature books, but commissioned others to do the bindings. Schori printed by letterpress using a hand-operated press dating from the end of the 19th century, as well as by modern methods of offset lithography and four-color printing. He used antique and commercial typefaces, and even hand calligraphy in a few books. Schori also commissioned numerous artists who employed a wide variety of techniques ranging from woodblock engravings printed on a hand press to full-color lithography as well as commissioning designer bindings for several of his books. Schori left three miniature books unfinished when he died in 1994. His wife, Margaret and son, John completed the publication of these books. In addition, Schori printed a book entitled Lot’s Wife Was a Skeptic but never had it bound. (Bradbury 257)
