PEQUEÑO PRESS

Scope and Contents

Pequeño Press was established in 1984 by Pat Baldwin in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, who later moved to Bisbee, Arizona. (Bradbury 172)

Artist’s Statement: “Like many developments in the history of avant garde, artists’ books have emerged from a variety of influences which established an aesthetic foundation for these miniatures. The current generation of artists makes use of some basic structures of the codex and flew off into the blue for the finish. If these expressive art forms push ideas just beyond habitual limits, it is because I have quintessentially, rather than incidentally elevated the genre: book as art.” Pat Baldwin, for The Art of the Miniature Book, Selections from the Library of Alden Jacobs, an exhibit held September 23, 1999-November 24, 1999, Special Collections & University Archives, Alexander Library, Rutgers University.
