KITEMAUG PRESS

Scope and Contents

Kitemaug Press is the imprint of Frank J. Anderson of Spartanburg, South Carolina. His press name is means “the place of good fishing” in the Native American Mohegan language. Anderson started printing in 1965 in Salina, Kansas when he obtained a 3 x 5 Kelsey Excelsior platen press and some type and later acquired a 5 x 7 Pearl treadle press and 15 cases of type. Anderson sold his two large presses upon retiring from his position at Wofford College in 1984. He then received a gift of about 75 cases of type and what he refers to as his favorite press: a 7 x 10 CMC Superior platen press. He also owns a 7 x 10 Sigwalt press. (Bradbury 116)
