ACHILLE J. ST. ONGE

Scope and Contents

According to Bradbury, Achille J. St. Onge of Worcester, Massachusetts set the standard for 20th century miniature books. A hobby printer, St. Onge didn’t print his miniature books, although he selected the content and designed the book. He commissioned some of the finest printers and bookbinders in the world, such as Daniel B. Updike and Bruce Rogers. St. Onge also used English printers and binders, such as the Chiswick Press and Sangorski & Sutcliffe, and the Dutch firm of Joh. Enschede en Zonen. … St. Onge published miniature books he thought would have wide appeal, and printed editions of a thousand or more copies. He also published a periodical from 1960 to 1962 called The Miniature Book Collector. (Bradbury 249)
