Scope and Contents

Summary:This series includes professional and personal papers, such as correspondence, resumes, journals, newspaper articles, primarily about her work, and photographs of Fran and others. In the journals and notes from a journal workshop are self-evaluations, notes on her personal experiences, and reminiscences about Fran written by her sister. Fran’s research on calligraphy and illumination was extensive, and this series includes copies of illuminated pages with her notes on design and coloration of the work, as well as a comparison she made of the book, Illuminated Ornaments by Henry Shaw, that she held in her collection, with copies in New York libraries and correspondence about that work. The series also includes photocopies of two works by Paul Standard: Calligraphy for the Printer and Our Handwriting. The originals are cataloged in the library collection. The series is arranged by box, then alphabetically by folder title. These records are housed in manuscript boxes and a card file box (Boxes 10-12).
