PERSONAL

Scope and Contents

Summary: This series consists of nine folders containing correspondence, photographs, contact prints, and negatives of Suellen Glashausser, her immediate family, and her work. The series also includes small works and prints by other artists. The date range is from the 1960s through 2001.

She maintained friendships with other textile and book artists that blur the line between professional and personal correspondence. The series contains cards and letters from both personal friends, other artists and acquaintances, as well as a letter addressed to Charles Glashausser, from the Henry Street Settlement in February 2001, expressing condolences. Other correspondence with artists can be found throughout Suellen Glashausser’s papers, where they are associated with exhibitions, professional topics, teaching or artistic techniques. General professional correspondence can also be found in Correspondence in the series PROFESSIONAL.

Among the photographs are black and white portraits of Glashausser from the 1960s through the 1980s, undated photographs of her at a workshop with students, photographs of Glashausser in her studio/home and of her work from an article in Home News. Also represented are images of her husband, son, and daughter, individually and in family portraits.

The series ARTWORK – PHOTOGRAPHS has some overlap with this series, including the folder: Photographs of Suellen Glashausser and her Work for Home News, as well as negatives and proof sheets that include both family pictures and photographs of her artwork.
