OTHER ARTISTS - EXHIBITIONS

Scope and Contents

Summary: Suellen Glashausser was intensely involved with the world of art and actively engaged with other artists both within her field and within the broader art community by reading and visiting galleries and exhibitions. This series consists of 1 1/2 cubic feet and ranges in date from 1968 to 2001. There is some overlap with other series in this collection, as she used the art that interested her and the places she went to see the art both for her own interest and for her classes. The series comprises documents related to exhibitions for artists other than Suellen Glashausser. In some cases, she may have participated in the exhibition, but is not listed as a contributing artist. The series includes catalogs of solo and group exhibitions, as well as announcements, checklists, clippings, exhibition reviews, invitations to openings, post cards and press releases.

In 1994, Suellen Glashausser was awarded a grant from the Global Education Awards Program to bring the Japanese Expressions in Paper exhibition by artists: Yutaka Hatta, Kiyonori Kado, Yoshiichi Maruakami and Hiroko Yamamoto of Japan to Montclair State College and various art galleries. The exhibit was on view at the Montclair Art Gallery, Robeson Gallery at Rutgers, New Jersey Designer Craftsmen in New Brunswick, Hunterdon Art Museum and Monmouth University. Governor Yukio Kurita of Fukui Prefecture of Japan gave the welcoming message. The material for these exhibitions consists of catalogs and promotional material, correspondence, grant application material, insurance papers, news articles, photographs and slides. Dates range from the initial grant in 1993 to the exhibitions, which took place in 1994 and 1995. For ease of locating the material, all folders are listed in 1994, the year the exhibitions were first presented. See also OTHER ARTISTS - SLIDES, Japanese Expressions (Box 8, Folder 79).
