Arrangement

CLIPPINGS is arranged chronologically by month. The articles were labeled as Laudatory Clips and ranged from April 1972-Jan. 1978 and concerned a variety of topics. To conserve space the articles were foldered with multiple months in each folder. Articles of the same month are grouped together but are not clipped together.

Related Series

MICROFILM contains several reels of clippings, principally from the 1970s. A sampling of clippings concerning HAW from the period prior to 1970 can be found in the CLIPPINGS & INFORMATION SUBJECT FILES series. Clippings from the 1950s through 1964 were collected by HAW's mother; these can be found in the SCRAPBOOKS series of the Williams Family sub-group. Some clippings regarding HAW can also be found in the SUBJECT FILES, particularly in the Administrative Assistants and Press Office Files sub-series. Clippings for the period 1980-1982, especially as they relate to Abscam, can be found in both the MICROFILM and ABSCAM FILES series.

Appraisal and Discard Information

CLIPPINGS were found throughout the accessioned material, totalling 17 cubic feet. The bulk of the original material was discarded by the archivist because: a) the bulk was stamped with microfilm frame numbers, indicating the items are likely to be found in the collection's microfilm and b) most clippings were glued to sheets of paper, or were whole newspapers. The only clippings retained in the series were those in the files already photocopied (i.e., not newsprint glued to paper backing).
