SPEECHES Series Overview,, 1960-1981.

SPEECHES includes files of HAW remarks given on the Senate floor, in testimony or as a committee member at hearings, at college commencements, to New Jersey constituencies and political groups, on the campaign trail, and to industry associations and other interest groups. The series includes some remarks delivered by others, including Jeanette Williams and HAW staff members, either on behalf of HAW or because of their connection to him. The series is useful for providing insight into HAW's perspective on many matters, especially those related to his legislative priorities.

The bulk of the series consists of the speech files from HAW's office, which span most of HAW's tenure in the Senate. Small sets of subject-oriented speech files, which appear to be reference copies maintained by individual staff members, were also brought together by the archivist in this series.
