Scope and Contents
Other Trial-Related Material includes all material, other than court filings from HAW's trials, that relates to Abscam trials. The sub-series includes FBI-related documents, such as correspondence and memos communicated between the FBI and the Department of Justice, primarily obtained via the Freedom of Information Act. The sub-series also includes transcripts of recorded conversations. An item of note is the Affidavit of Marie Weinberg, wife of Mel Weinberg, who was found dead days after its release.
Other Trial-Related Material also includes materials related to non-HAW Abscam trials, largely in the form of court filings and transcripts. They include the trials of Congressmen Kelly, Jenrette, and Lederer. Finally, general materials relating to the trials is included. This includes information on Biocel (a company in which HAW's wife, Jeanette, had an interest, and which was used as character evidence against him in trial); press leaks; a "forged letter" (allegedly created by Camden Mayor Angelo Errichetti, who was also convicted in an Abscam-related trial); and various affidavits, memos, and legal correspondence.
