Arrangement

BRIEFING MATERIALS is arranged chronologically, except for some memos to HAW from various committee staff from 1979-1980 and other material which were found after the series was processed and were placed at the end of the series. The materials in this last set, including an index in the first folder, were kept in the original folders, with the cover label photocopied for preservation and placed inside.

HAW's staff generally labeled the binders or folders but some were not labeled. For the materials with no label, the archivist used the general theme of the content to assign a description.

Related Series

The remains of briefing books and, more commonly, briefing notes from staff members to HAW can be found in the COMMITTEE RECORDS, LEGISLATION FILES, and SUBJECT FILES series.

Appraisal and Discard Information

BRIEFING MATERIALS were found throughout accessioned materials in black binders or folders. Many of the binders and folders had labels on the cover; these original containers were discarded after photocopying the cover. Duplicate briefing books were discarded but all other material was kept, including the subject dividers within the binders.
