Sub-Series VI: Workplace & Workforce Matters,, 1960-1980 (bulk 1969 - 1980).
Dates
- 1960-1980 (bulk 1969 - 1980).
Scope and Contents
Workplace & Workforce Matters includes materials related to labor legislation sponsored by HAW in the 1970s. Well represented is the epic, and ultimately failed, 1977 floor debate for labor law reform; this material includes briefing documents, cost analyses, debating points, bill and amendment prints, remarks, etc. HAW's work on the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) has a small amount of documentation, including transcripts of a Jersey City hearing. Equal employment, minimum wage, and workers compensation legislation are represented in the series with briefing books, staff memos, hearing transcripts, etc. A lengthy internal staff memo from 1975 assessing the weak economy and its implications for equal employment and other labor legislation is of interest. A letter from President Jimmy Carter to HAW regarding the Comprehensive Education & Training Act (CETA) is in the sub-series.
Material in the sub-series dated prior to 1969 is reference material in the form of copied journal articles.
