Scope and Contents
ERISA Oversight & Amendments includes material related to the Labor & Human Resources Committee oversight of the administration and implementation of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) of 1974. The sub-series also includes material on proposed amendments to ERISA and other legislation following on ERISA's passage. Other pension legislation is represented here as well. The sub-series includes no material regarding the original passage of ERISA (see the Various sub-series).
Well represented in this sub-series are the legislative activities from 1978 - 1980 directed at improving aspects of ERISA, particularly for multi-employer pension plans, including staff memos, bills, industry positions, floor remarks, etc. on S.3017 (1978), S.209 (1979), S.1076/HR 3904 (1980). The sub-series also includes staff notes regarding the proposed Chrysler loan guarantee. There is also a folder of correspondence involving HAW, AFL-CIO George Meany, and the SEC concerning the implications for ERISA of the Supreme Court's Daniel decision.
