Sub-Series II: Robo Form Letters,, 1965-1967 and 1970-1977.

Dates

  • 1965-1967 and 1970-1977.

Scope and Contents

At some point in the early 1960s and until the implementation of the computerized Correspondence Management System (CMS) in 1977, HAW's office used at least one type of mechanical means for generating standard responses to constituent mail on legislative issues. HAW's staff used the term "robo" to refer to correspondence answered in this manner. Robo Form Letters consists of the files of the standard text for many, perhaps most, of the robo responses. Files of form letters for 1963-1964 and 1968-1970 (years in which robo responses are known to have been produced) were not found in the collection.

Arrangement

The robo form letters were found in some disorder, but are arranged in two, roughly chronological sets that seem to reflect original order. The first set covers the period 1971-1977 (with some one-time letters from 1970). The second set covers the periods 1965-1967 and 1975-1977. The reason HAW's office maintained two sets of robo form letters from the mid-1970s is unknown.

The dates used in the container list are from the folder labels.

Related Series

Beginning in 1977, CMS ENCYCLOPEDIA includes standard letter texts for use in the Correspondence Management System, replacing the robo form letter files.
