Sub-Series IV: Miscellaneous,, 1963-1982 (bulk 1976-1982).

Dates

  • 1963-1982 (bulk 1976-1982).

Scope and Contents

Miscellaneous includes files of material that are consistent with that found in the other SPECIAL PROJECTS FILES sub-series, but were found during processing in scattered places in the collection. The bulk of the sub-series consists of proposals made by various municipalities for economic development and other public works projects. The sub-series also includes material related to HAW's inquiries into the adequacy of medical treatment at Fort Dix and his activities related to proposed closings of NJ military programs in the mid-late 1970s, particularly at Fort Dix. There is also substantial material regarding proposed highway safety regulations in the late 1970s concerning anti-lock truck brakes and the New Jersey company Breeze Corp's interest in the matter.

Arrangement

Given the scattered nature of the materials in this sub-series, the arrangement was imposed during processing by the archivist and is based mostly on practical considerations. There are three sets of material, the first consisting of material found during one period of processing and the other sets consisting of additional material found later. The second and third sets were created to avoid continually integrating newfound material into the previous sets. Each set is arranged alphabetically based most commonly on the applicable department/agency, although a company, town, university, or other subject name is often used instead. Folder descriptions were taken from the original labels or derived from the documents. Dates used in the container list are based on the documents. Container 297 includes those files with legal size documents that were separated from the rest of the sub-series.

Appraisal and Discard Information

This sub-series is comprised of miscellaneous materials found throughout the collection that were deemed by the archivist to be both project-oriented and unrelated to other series. Much material of this type found during processing consisted of work-in-process folders and loose material marked for filing that never occurred. These materials, where clearly traceable to existing sub-series or specific project files, were placed in their proper position. Materials that could not be explicitly linked to existing files or placed within another project sub-series were included in this Miscellaneous sub-series. All substantive project matter was retained.

General

Index Terms

In order to relate Miscellaneous to the other SPECIAL PROJECT FILES sub-series, the unifying element of department/agency was used as an index term. In addition, when applicable and not in the folder description, municipality name was used.
