SPECIAL PROJECTS FILES Series Overview

Scope and Contents

SPECIAL PROJECTS FILES includes appeals for assistance made to HAW by institutions (e.g., companies, universities, non-profit organizations, etc.), authorities (e.g., port, housing, water supply/sewerage, etc.), and by state, county, municipal, and other New Jersey-based government entities. Generally, these appeals call on HAW to intercede with a Federal department or agency to obtain grants, contracts, loans, or other funding or services under various Federal programs. (For simplicity, the term "institution" will be used in the description of this series and its sub-series to refer generally to the various types of entities pursuing Federal program support.)

In requesting HAW's support, the institution often included supporting documentation about the specific product or project involved, as well as contextual documentation, particularly with respect to localities and demographics. For example, requests for assistance to obtain funding for a housing project might include both details about the specific project and about the perceived fit of the project in terms of the municipality's demographics. This documentation includes a wide range of materials including, but not limited to, project proposals, grant applications, company and product brochures, business plans, product specifications, blueprints, maps, photographs, feasibility studies, financial statements, and environmental impact studies. Therefore, SPECIAL PROJECTS FILES is useful both for understanding the activities of HAW's office in support of institutions and, perhaps even more so, as a source of information for local initiatives.

The types of local initiatives found in SPECIAL PROJECTS FILES covers the breadth of Federal programs:
