Sub-Series II: Employment and Interns,, 1959-1981 (bulk 1970-1979).
Dates
- 1959-1981 (bulk 1970-1979).
Scope and Contents
Employment and Interns includes files of resumes, referrals, or other materials related to inquiries regarding positions with HAW's office staff and on various intern programs, and requests for references from HAW. Informational material on various programs is included, such as a senior citizen internship and page requirements. The sub-series does not include most HAW staff or even the most prominent positions, but includes only those documents that were filed with case work under the category "Employment," "Summer Interns," or the like. Committee counsel Steve Paradise, Legislative Assistant Paul Skrabut, and Press Secretary Michael McCurry are among the few prominent staff represented in the sub-series. The sub-series is useful for gaining insight into the background of some of HAW's staff and of those selected for the few, highly desired intern positions.

Arrangement
Employment and Interns is arranged chronologically based on the original folder label date. Original folder descriptions were used. Generally, dates used in the container list are from the original folder labels, not the documents in the folders. Items found loose in the original boxes were foldered together under Miscellaneous. Items retained principally for the autographed documents were foldered and placed at the end of the sub-series.
Appraisal and Discard Information
Files of individuals seeking internships, employment with HAW or with a Federal agency, or a HAW reference were often filed by the office staff with case work as individual folders or in batches. These files amounted to approximately 18 cubic feet. During processing, materials were retained if they related to known HAW staff, referred to the hiring of the individual, or if they included notable correspondents, typically other legislators referring individuals to HAW. All other employment and intern requests were discarded.
