Scope and Contents
Summary:This series includes 24 photographs, oversized photographic negatives and transparencies. Many of the photographs are of various men who worked in the printing of Ben Shahn's books, including Haggadah for Passover. There are also three copies of a photograph of Ben Shahn and images of Haggadah for Passover illustrations. The photographic negative of a drawing of Gandhi used in different Ben Shahn posters, as well as a transparency and photographic print of one of the posters. Subjects of many of the photographs were identified on the verso, while others could not be identified. Arrangement is by photograph subject, with unidentified photographs at the end of the listing.
Photographs are found in Boxes 1,3 and 5 and in an oversized drawer.
The Untitled photographic print (D12-6963, line and dot or sky and hands pattern), though available to researchers, is fragile, prone to curling and tearing, and the folder is large and awkward. If possible, please see Box 1, Folder 19, (Printed Image of Digitized Photograph), rather than original. Digital image available on request, subject to copyright restrictions.
