Scope and Contents

Summary:This series comprises 130 items with letters and text written primarily in graphite and ink on tracing paper or heavy paper. These include lettering for announcements, book covers and titles, quotes used in political or anti-war posters, Chinese characters, Hebrew letters and quotations, and drafts of a Christmas card or print. For this listing works are arranged alphabetically by title, first words or subject, ie. Announcements and Titles, "April 26-29," "Behold," Chinese Calligraphy. Physically, the works are arranged by size, then alphabetically. Calligraphy and lettering is found in Boxes 1,3, 4 and in an oversized Drawer. For many of the large and unwieldy works, digital images are available subject to copyright restrictions. Digital images have also been printed and can be found in Box 1, Folder 9 (Printed Images of Digitized Calligraphy and Lettering). These prints are not included in the item count above.
