Scope and Contents
Summary: The Press Coverage series consists of articles about Kings Super Markets (1948-2006) and Marks & Spencer (1988-2004), including the opening of Kings Chatham (1975), innovation and success at Kings (1987), and the sale of Kings (1988). Press coverage in subsequent years tracked Kings and its progress under the ownership of M&S. Included in this series is one clipping concerning New Jersey in general.
Among the Jewish History files are an article about Jewish students at Harvard (1997) and an honors thesis about Jewish students at Dartmouth, 1920-1940 (1992). The Organizations files contain information about the Food Marketing Institute, its founding in 1939 and conferences held 1948-1955. In addition the Reference files hold publications by the Food Marketing Institute and the Super Market Institute, a study of the commercial fresh tomato business by the Campbell Soup Company (1980), and a research report on the prepared food market conducted by the American Meat Institute (1988).
The non-Kings Store files contain Joe Albertson's "Memories" of Albertson's Food Center (1993), a prospectus and purchase offer for Shaw's Super Markets, Inc. (1986-1987), and booklets about Superquinn ("40 Years of Celebration," 2000) and Wakefern Food Corp.'s Shoprite ("Celebrating the Cooperative Spirit: The First Fifty Years," 1996). There also are clippings about "Ahold USA's subsidiaries, U.S. Food Service and Giant Food (2001), Balducci's (2000), Grand Union (2000), IGA (1997), Krasdale (1998), Kroger's (1999-2000), Produce City (1995), Randalls Food Market (1988), Stop & Shop (1994), Wal-Mart Supercenters (2000), and Weis Markets (1998-1999).
