2. CORPORATE STRUCTURE, 1947-1994

Dates

  • 1947-1994

Scope and Contents

Summary: The Agreements files consist of legal agreements made between members of the Bildner family regarding the organization and structure of the family's companies (1936-1955). Included are partnership and modification agreements, transaction summaries and other legal documents.

The Board of Outside Directors was a group of five men in the super market business who met quarterly to advise Allen Bildner in his role as President of Kings. The files contain biographical information about some of the members, memos concerning objectives of the board, store results, store openings, and meeting minutes (1982-1988). The Board appears to have been assembled in 1982, and a memo outlining the background and history of Kings is included in the file for that year.

Also available in the collection is a copy of the Certificate of Incorporation for Kings Super Markets, Inc. and related amendments (1955, legal size file). The Mission Statements and guiding principles, and statements of value outline the Kings' philosophy and approach to business.

There are three folders of Organizational Charts. Two describe the organizational structure, new team titles and reporting relationships after the sale of Kings to Marks & Spencer (1989) and the third lists the management of Kings stores in Bernardsville, Morristown, and Bedminster, New Jersey (1994).
