Scope and Contents

Summary:

Materials dated from 1780 to 1814, and including many undated documents, are included in this section of ten items. Many of these documents would appear to have been obtained by Captain John Outwater in his role of judge, as they pertain to legal matters and mostly fall in the later years of his life. These documents include:

  1. One item, circa 1780, is a pass granting John Terhune [?] and Thomas Vreeland permission to travel to the Jersey Shore.
  2. "The Charges Laid Against Me," a testimony written by one Peter Wilson and dated 1781, may possibly have belonged to Captain John Outwater.
  3. A summons dated 1804.
  4. A settlement of accounts between Daniel Wright and Garret Van Green [?] dated 1811.
  5. Papers regarding the estate and orphan children of John Earle. Dated 1814.
  6. An undated tax assessment of unknown provenance. Included in the list of "items" reviewed are a group of slaves.
  7. An undated deed stating a debt undertaken by Nathaniel Earle.
  8. A receipt written out to Van Green [?].
