Scope and Contents

Summary: Records of the operation and maintenance of borough public works, such as the water and sewage treatment plants, the Roosevelt Borough Hall, Roosevelt Memorial Park, and the road system.

Materials include bids, blueprints, bonds, contracts, correspondence, invoices, ordinances, reports, resolutions, and specifications. Other material includes annual reports (1947-1959) of the Roosevelt Borough Plant Superintendent and an account book (1956-1961) documenting purchases for and repairs to equipment, such as cement mixers and fire hydrants.

These items document the renovation of the water treatment plan in the 1960s, the building and replacement of wells, fluoridation, improvements and renovations to the borough hall, road repairs, and the work of the Park Commission which maintained Roosevelt Memorial Park. Of particular interest is documentation of attempts to monitor and address the problem of water pollution from the Sewage Disposal Plant which became a major issue for the borough after new Department of Environmental Protection regulations came into force in the 1970s.
