Scope and Contents
Summary: Documents the activities of the Roosevelt Borough Planning Board and the Zoning Board of Adjustment, which was a subcommittee of the Planning Board.
Document types include correspondence, master plans, reports, contracts, bids, blueprints, and specifications. In the sub-series "sub-division applications" (0.6 cubic feet), individual files contain: application forms, blueprints, correspondence, insurance certifications, maps, plats, and site plans; as well as notices of hearings to be held, orders to show cause, ordinances, permits, and resolutions issued by the Planning Board.
Correspondence concerns master plans, improvements to the borough hall, the initiation of a zoning program (1938-1946), requested changes and violations to zoning ordinances, and the purchase of government property which had passed into the jurisdiction of the War Assets Administration by the Roosevelt Board of Education (1948). This series also contains correspondence with Kuron Developers, Inc., which won contracts in the 1960s and filed for bankruptcy in the 1970s.
Of particular interest are the development of a senior citizen housing development (the Solar Village), 1981-1984; and the building of geodesic dome structures by a company located in Roosevelt (1974-1975).
