Scope and Contents

Summary: Correspondence received and copies of correspondence sent by the mayor of Jersey Homesteads/Roosevelt; a clipping from The Congressional Record and two photographs.

Contains the mayor's general correspondence as well as writings to various government representatives on behalf of the borough and citizens of Jersey Homesteads (later Roosevelt). Concerns displaced persons from European camps (1943), negotiations with the Colby Hat Factory, and the formation of the state of Israel. This series also includes correspondence with United States Representative from the 3rd District of New Jersey James C. Auchincloss.

Additional items include an emergency proclamation about water restrictions, and correspondence received about zoning matters, resignations by mayor-appointed committee members, an historical information inquiry, and a thank-you letter.

In the clipping, James Auchincloss presents the resolution of the Roosevelt mayor and council changing the community's name from Jersey Homesteads to Roosevelt (1945). In the photographs, Roosevelt Borough artist Jacob Landau appears with a piece of his artwork dedicated to Mayor Irving Flicker upon his retirement in 1958.
