Scope and Contents
Summary: The Jersey Homesteads Joint Board was an example of the extra-judicial bodies modelled after the Jewish rabbinical courts and labor arbitration committees which were common in Jewish communities during this period. It was composed of representatives from the Borough Council, the Mayor, the three cooperatives, residents, and special committees. The Board's functions ranged from resolving citizen disputes, hearing complaints, reading correspondence and reports of the Community Manager, organizing benevolent collections for needy residents, and establishing ad hoc committees, to the general expression of the community's economic, social, cultural, and housing concerns. The board met irregularly but generally convened once a month. There are gaps.
