Dates

  • 1937-1990

Scope and Contents

Summary: Photocopies of the minutes of the Jersey Homesteads/Roosevelt borough council, spanning the period from July 6, 1937 (apparently not the first meeting), to 1990.

The council initially met weekly, and from 1939 met monthly. As well as regular council meetings, the minutes include special council meetings, annual organization meetings, joint meetings with other bodies, and public hearings. Included with the minutes are ordinances and resolutions.

Topics discussed in the 1930s include the incorporation of Jersey Homesteads as a borough in 1937, relations with the federal government such as disputes over the payment of services, and attempts to attract industry to Roosevelt after the closing of the cooperative factory.

In the 1980s, topics include water/sewer rates, senior citizen housing, community development grants, and traffic and parking problems. During this period, part of the meeting was open to members of the public, who often challenged the council on various issues.

Throughout the minutes are reports of committees, elections, rewarding of contracts, payment of bills, etc.
