Scope and Contents

Summary:Photographs of Roosevelt views and people.

Includes prints, negatives, contact sheets, a scrapbook, and photocopies.

Of particular interest are Farm Security Administration photographs (including negatives) of the building of Jersey Homesteads and scenes of early life there taken by WPA photographers Dorothea Lange, Russell Lee and others; the originals are in the Library of Congress. Also of interest are photographs and photocopies depicting Roosevelt in the 1960s, taken by resident photojournalist Edwin Rosskam; and negatives of applications to settle in Jersey Homesteads.

This series includes portraits of Roosevelt artists and other residents, community groups, and scenes of community events such as the Fourth of July celebration, dating from the 1950s to 1980. In addition, the series contains the scrapbook of Bernarda Bryson Shahn which contains newspaper clipping on the death of FDR and photographs of the clothing factory, life at Roosevelt, and the creation of the bust of FDR.
