PUBLICATIONS, ARTICLES, AND ESSAYS, circa 1930s-2000

Dates

  • circa 1930s-2000

Scope and Contents

Summary:Includes articles from journals, magazines and newsletters, brochures, excerpts from books, a publication resulting from an urban planning workshop and two unpublished undergraduate theses about Roosevelt, dating from the foundation of the community to the present. Shepard Wolman's article "Sociometric Planning of a New Community," 1937, was based on several months participant observation in Roosevelt, where he assessed the results of the attempt to assign houses in the community based on settlers' preferences. J.H. Kaufmann's "The Social Behavior of Wood Turtles," 1992, is included because it describes a rare species of wood turtle which was discovered in an undeveloped area of Roosevelt. Of special note is the undated facsimile of "Questions and Answers about New Jersey Homestead," which details how to become involved in the "self sustaining industrial farm."It should be noted that the Roosevelt Public School publications have remained in their separate series.
