MINUTES, 1928-1967 and 1985-1997
Dates
- 1928-1967 and 1985-1997
Scope and Contents
Summary: Minutes for meetings of Congregation Poile Zedek. Topics covered include annual elections, cemetery maintenance, maintenance of the synagogue building, contractual agreements with rabbis and administration of the Hebrew School. Until February 18, 1947, the minutes are recorded in Yiddish. A note before the August 13, 1985, minutes states that the meeting it records followed a period "of no (recorded or otherwise) regular meetings." The subsequent minutes, which sometimes include attachments, cover most of the topics already mentioned and also concern synagogue security, insurance coverage, membership size, financial matters, State of Israel bonds, memorial plaques, constitutional revision, historical landmark status and the possible loss of some or all of the synagogue's property to New Brunswick redevelopment efforts. Regular updates on the illnesses and deaths of persons associated with the Congregation also appear, as do the names of persons applying, and approved, for membership.
In 1957, the minutes of several executive meetings are also included. In addition, from 1959 to 1967 and 1989 to 1997 with gaps, the minutes of Board of Trustees' meetings are present as well.
