Scope and Contents
Summary:Audiotape, phonograph records, cine film, and videotape documenting radio and television appearances by Clifford P. Case, including several audio recordings released by the Senator's office for use in news broadcasts and a few radio and television spots produced in connection with re-election campaigns. Also included in this series are audio recordings of several of the Senator's speeches.
The bulk of the documents in this series consists of 16mm black and white cine film (most positive, some negative) produced in the studios of the U.S. Senate and featuring Senator Case, often with other members of Congress and/or news personalities. Others of the films represent network news programs on which the Senator was a guest.
Of the audio recordings, most are recordings of television broadcasts, although a few represent recordings of radio broadcasts, audio tapes released to the press by Senator Case's office, or recordings of speeches which he delivered, The audio tapes included are all reel-to-reel in format. Very few videotapes are present. They include black and white and color videotape in various formats ranging from two-inch to cassette.
Most of the films and tapes have a date written on their containers. This date might be the date that item was broadcast, but could also represent its recording date, release date, or even the date when the item was received in the Senator's office. (Because photographs were always taken at the start of recording sessions in the studios of the U.S. Senate, dates can be assigned to some of the 16mm films by consulting the series PHOTOGRAPHS. In addition, announcements of the Senator's TV appearances sometimes are included among the newspaper clippings in the series SCRAPBOOKS.)
A preliminary list of the films and tapes is filed at the beginning of the series. This list includes the date listed on each item (when given), but lacks the title of each and information concerning its specific format,
