Summary: Documentation is comprised of material to support the Burger Opposition Committee formed by Phillips to prevent approval of Burger's nomination as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and to support the subsequent court case Phillips brought against Burger arguing that his confirmation by the Senate was unconstitutional. Included in the documentation are legal proceedings, including an application for a stay pending determination of petitions for writs a certiorari, which was a request for a temporary restraining order preventing Burger from accepting his commission; records of the Senate Judiciary Committee hearings; and a draft of a proposed opposition ad to be printed in the Washington Post.
