Black and white linocut print of three female figures, partially clothed, holding their heads and grimacing. Note in lower right “2nd [q?] proof.” This Image was used to illustrate the second appendix of Winifred Lubell’s book The Metamorphosis of Baubo. See linoleum block, [Three Gorgon-Baubos – The Menacers and Protectors] (Lubell 500, Box 40).

Scope and Contents: Lubell 8/14: 301 Linocut print of robed [Greek?] women, some with head coverings. Foreground two pairs of kneeling/squatting women. Background on one side is woman and child by loom, and on the other side a woman reaching for a pot from a shelf and another woman with face covered. Household setting with pottery, hanging herbs? and cats. Colors are black and white. Note in lower right: “1st proof.” This appears to be a print from the same block as Lubell 149. Scope and Contents: Lubell 8/14: 302a-b Woodcut print of temple scene with female figures. Center figures are two kneeling women, one with shawl and the other offering a cup. Background female figures dancing. Below (?) sleeping or dead pigs and a [rat?]. Both prints are black with white gouache adding emphasis or covering unwanted lines. Lubell 302a is identified as “Proof 1.” The upper half of this image is Figure 2.2 in Winifred Lubell’s book The Metamorphosis of...
