Ink and wash drawing. Portrait of a seated woman, framed from her left, showing her hands in her lap and eyes lowered. Thin pen ink lines are used for outlines (as well as detailing for the hair and definition in the face), but most of the definition comes from the extensive watercolors, mainly orange and purple. Dated Feb. 5, 1958.

Ink drawing. Very light, half-drawn sketch of an old woman, framed from right. No details about the figure extend below her neck, and the outlines for her hair are extremely light. The lines “Likeness and good drawing coincidental not critical” and “Jan 28” appear on the top of the page.

Graphite pencil drawing. Portrait of a woman holding a child. Sketchy outlines are extremely light and half-drawn, reaching only to the elbow of the woman and to the waist of the child. The woman’s left arm is positioned so that it appears to be holding part of the baby that has not been drawn. On the verso are preliminary sketches of the woman’s hand and the baby’s nose.

Ink and wash drawing (with watercolor and graphite pencil). Colored, well-detailed head and neck portrait of a young woman. Pen ink lines are used for the structure of the hair and face. Interest is heightened by the extensive watercolor use – purple, orange, and various pinks and browns. Like many of these portraits, the details falls off significantly the further it gets away from the subject’s head.
